After the collapse of the Dutch right-wing coalition, the chances of far-right populist Geert Wilders rejoining the government have taken a nosedive. Potential partners are hesitant to collaborate with Wilders, who leads the radical right Party for Freedom (PVV). The largest former partner of the PVV in government, the right-liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), under its leader Dilan Yeşilgoz, won't work with Wilders and won't seek a minority government under his tolerance.

According to Yeşilgoz, Wilders "has shown no intention of taking responsibility in any way." She added, "I cannot work with a politician and a party like that." The Christian democratic party CDA has also ruled out cooperation with Wilders. With only minor parties remaining as potential partners in the right-wing conservative camp, a governing majority seems unlikely.

Wilders pulled his party out of the four-party coalition in The Hague last week due to disagreements over asylum seekers. He aims to make his party the strongest force again and try for the position of head of government before new elections, set for October 29.

In the broader picture, while the liberals haven't explicitly stated they won't work with Wilders based on his ideology alone, political tensions and policy disagreements indicate that future collaboration could be difficult. Immigration policy disputes, fears of divisive and destabilizing actions, and concerns about coalition viability contribute to the feeling that a partnership with Wilders might prove elusive.

Insights:

  • Immigration policy disagreements: Wilders advocates for stricter measures, while other parties may support more moderate or liberal immigration policies.
  • Political interests and stability: Yeşilgoz criticized Wilders for prioritizing his own interests over the country's needs, which could make other parties wary of working with him.
  • Coalition dynamics: The collapse of the coalition was due to the PVV's withdrawal, casting doubt on whether collaborating with the party would result in a stable government.

The Dutch coalition's collapse has led to a complicated employment policy landscape, as potential partners are reluctant to work with Geert Wilders and his Party for Freedom (PVV), due to their ideological views and policy disagreements, particularly regarding immigration. Fears of war-and-conflicts, politics, crime-and-justice, and general-news scenarios arising from an unstable coalition make a partnership with Wilders seem elusive. The future of Wilders' role in government remains uncertain, as he aims to rebuild his party and seek a head of government position before the October 29 elections.
