Rounded Off Acting Experience on Netflix - Netflix's The Boroughs Unveils Dark Secrets in a Retirement Community

Netflix has revealed first-look images of The Boroughs, a new mystery and sci-fi series set to premiere on May 21. The eight-episode show follows residents of a retirement community as they uncover a disturbing secret. Behind the project are showrunners Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, known for their work on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

The series stars an acclaimed cast, including Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, and Bill Pullman. Molina portrays a widower grappling with an existential crisis after losing his wife. The creators praised the ensemble's depth, noting their combined 350 years of acting experience.

Matt and Ross Duffer, best known for Stranger Things, serve as executive producers. They stressed that the show treats ageing with seriousness rather than humour. Their recent projects include Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a stage play that premiered in London's West End in 2023 before moving to Broadway in 2025.

Before The Boroughs, Netflix will release Tales From '85, an animated spin-off of Stranger Things, on April 23. The Duffers are also executive producers on this project.

The series marks a rare non-Stranger Things venture for the Duffer brothers in recent years. Their focus has largely remained on the final season of Stranger Things, which debuted in 2025. The Boroughs will begin streaming on Netflix with all eight episodes on May 21.
