Intense, edge-of-your-seat Netflix drama delivered - Netflix show promises a refreshing change
In the bustling city of New York, the Black Rabbit restaurant, resembling a nightclub with a VIP lounge, serves as the captivating setting for Netflix's latest miniseries. Owned by the protagonist Jake, played by Jason Bateman who is also known for his role in "Ozark", the Black Rabbit is the centre of attention for a diverse cast of characters.
The series premieres on Netflix and is directed by an impressive lineup, including Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Ben Semanoff, and Justin Kurzel. Bateman himself directs the first two episodes. The star-studded cast includes Jude Law, Troy Kotsur, Sope Dirisu, and Abbey Lee.
At the heart of the story is Jake's troubled brother Vince, played by Bateman, who finds himself in deep debt to dangerous gangsters. His debts and a deaf crime lord, Joe Mancuso, played by Kotsur, form the crux of the series.
Sope Dirisu plays a music star who has invested in the Black Rabbit, adding an extra layer of glamour to the already captivating setting. Abbey Lee brings her ultra-cool charm to the role of a bartender in the restaurant. Head chef Roxie and her right hand Tony are among the staff at the Black Rabbit.
The series takes a dramatic turn when Vince reappears in Jake's life, setting off a downward spiral of events. The relationship between Vince and Jake, as well as a traumatic event from their childhood, become the main focus of the series.
As the story unfolds, the initial focus on the Black Rabbit's staff and guests shifts to a mafia narrative, making for a gripping, sometimes breathless new production that skillfully captures the hustle and bustle of New York. "Black Rabbit" is a worthwhile new addition to Netflix, carried by a stellar cast and a compelling storyline.
