Netflix Removes Humorous Sketch Featuring Wallace and Gromit Due to being Overly British

Wallace & Gromit's latest instalment, "Vengeance Most Fowl," has made a splash in the animation world. This newest entry in the beloved series is now available on Netflix and will be released on Christmas Day, December 25, in the UK and Ireland through the BBC.

The creators of "Vengeance Most Fowl" had to make adjustments to the film due to cultural references that might not be understood outside of the UK. For instance, a joke about a "bog chain" (toilet flush) was removed to ensure the film's accessibility to a global audience.

One of the private jokes that will likely amuse British audiences of a certain age is the baby seal character in the film, named Ron. This character is a reference to the British DIY company Ronseal, known for its slogan, "Does exactly what it says on the tin." Interestingly, Ron the Seal is not directly uttered in the movie, but the reference is understood by British audiences.

The character of Ron the Seal is expected to get his own series in the future. Meanwhile, in "Vengeance Most Fowl," he appears as an adorable baby seal that returns villain Feathers McGraw acquires to sit on his lap, reminiscent of James Bond's Blofeld.

Executive producer Carla Shelley mentioned the removal of certain cultural references from the film. However, the film still maintains the humour and charm that has made the Wallace & Gromit series a beloved part of British culture.

In the UK and Ireland, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will be released on Christmas Day, December 25, through the BBC. Internationally, the film will be available on Netflix on January 3, 2025.

The voice for Ron the Seal in "Vengeance Most Fowl" was provided by Dave Goodwin. The film promises to be a delightful addition to the Wallace & Gromit series, appealing to both old and new fans alike.
