Netflix potentially developing another installment of "KPop Demon Hunters 2" - details unveiled regarding the possibility of a sequel

In the music world of KPop Demon Hunters, a sequel is causing quite a stir among fans and the cast. The animated movie musical, released on Netflix on June 20, has been a major success and is still on the streaming platform's most popular movies list more than a month after its release.

While no official release date or formal announcement for a sequel has been made yet, as of mid-August 2025, the cast members' enthusiasm for a follow-up is evident. Arden Cho, who voices the half-demon lead singer Rumi, has expressed her desire to return, stating that she would be "heartbroken" if she didn't get to. Cast member Ji-young Yoo, who plays Korean American rapper and lyricist Zoey, has already told director Kang and codirector Chris Appelhans that "there has to be a follow-up." Ahn Hyo-seop's character, Jinu, may return in the sequel, despite his apparent sacrifice at the end of the first film.

Director Maggie Kang has expressed interest in a sequel, stating that she is "always" thinking about ideas for a sequel and that there are "a lot of pockets that we can explore." In an interview with Screen Rant, Kang discussed potential ideas for a sequel, mentioning side stories and unanswered questions in the first film. Ken Jeong is likely to reprise his role as band manager Bobby in the sequel.

However, no official green light or schedule for the sequel has been announced. Sony may explore different distribution deals, possibly outside Netflix, as negotiations are ongoing and Sony retains some rights. This could potentially delay or affect the announcement and release timing.

Fans are expressing their interest in a sequel on social media, with comments such as "Sony, this isn't just a movie, It's...A...FRANCHISE!!!" and "WE NEED PART 2!!!!! PLS!!!!!!!" Keep an eye on this page for updates on KPop Demon Hunters news.

In the meantime, the voices behind the characters are ready to return. Rei Ami was the singing voice for Zoey in the first movie, while Ejae provided the singing voice for Rumi. The Saja Boys, Jinu's demon bandmates, might not be completely doomed in the sequel, with Joel Kim Booster, Alan Lee, SungWon Cho, and Danny Chung voicing them in the first film.
