Netflix introduces a new drama, inspired by a popular novel, featuring a heart-wrenching, expansive love story

Based on Julia Whelan's bestselling novel, the Netflix movie "My Oxford Year" tells the story of an ambitious American student named Anna. Anna, played by Sofia Carson, earns a scholarship to study Victorian poetry at Oxford University for a year-long graduate programme.

In the movie, Anna falls in love with her charming professor, Jamie, portrayed by Corey Mylchreest. Their relationship, initially presented as casual, deepens over time. However, a shocking revelation unfolds when Anna discovers that Jamie is secretly suffering from terminal pneumonia. Despite his illness and a prestigious finance job waiting for her in the U.S., Anna chooses to stay with him.

The story culminates in Jamie’s death, with Anna embarking alone on the dream European "grand tour" he inspired her to pursue. She eventually becomes a poetry professor at Oxford herself, influenced by their love and his outlook on life.

Sofia Carson, known for her roles in Disney's "Descendants" and its sequels, and Corey Mylchreest deliver compelling performances in this timeless, heartbreaking, sweeping romance. Carson was determined to cast Mylchreest as Jamie, and their chemistry was evident during their audition.

The movie also stars Dougray Scott and Catherine McCormack, alongside Harry Trevaldwyn, Poppy Gilbert, and Hugh Coles. Iain Morris, known for his work in comedy, particularly in creating "The Inbetweeners", directs the movie.

"My Oxford Year" reaffirms the belief that life's too short to not live it in love and to not live in joy. This poignant and emotional movie is now available on Netflix for viewers to enjoy.
