Netflix continues collaboration with Harry and Meghan
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have signed a multi-year "first-look" deal with Netflix through their production company, Archewell Productions. This partnership, announced in September 2020, gives Netflix the first opportunity to consider any new projects from Archewell Productions.
The aim of this collaboration is to produce a variety of content, including documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programming. The projects focus on themes such as hope, community, and social impact, reflecting their philanthropic and humanitarian interests.
Harry and Meghan have already brought several projects to Netflix. One of their first collaborations was the personal docuseries, "Harry & Meghan," offering a glimpse into their lives after stepping back from royal duties. Another project, "Heart of Invictus," is a documentary connected to the Invictus Games, an event founded by Prince Harry. Meghan's animated children’s series, "Pearl," inspired by stories of pioneering women, is another example of their content.
Looking ahead, the couple is developing more documentaries and unscripted series focusing on social issues, mental health, and environmental causes. Collaborations with various creators and experts in storytelling are planned to bring underrepresented voices to the forefront. Further animated children’s programming continues Meghan’s interest in empowering young audiences.
The brand "As Ever," under which Meghan sells jam and other luxury food items like wine, will be part of this collaboration with Netflix. Additionally, a holiday special for "With Love, Meghan," a cooking and baking show, is planned for December. The second season of "With Love, Meghan" is expected to air this month.
Netflix’s head of content, Bela Bajaria, expressed that Harry and Meghan are influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences worldwide. Meghan herself stated, "We’re proud to continue our partnership with Netflix."
It's important to note that the relation between Harry, Meghan, and the royal family remains strained. The deal between Harry, Meghan, and Netflix was signed five years ago, after they stepped back from their royal duties. Harry is the younger son of King Charles III (76).
Due to the nature of ongoing development, specific titles and release dates for future projects may evolve over time. Harry, Meghan, along with their children Prince Archie (5) and Princess Lilibet (3), live in the US. Reviews of the first season of "With Love, Meghan" in the UK were mixed.
