Netflix collaboration persists for Harry and Meghan
Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have extended their multi-year "first-look" deal with streaming giant Netflix through their media company, Archewell Productions. This partnership, which initially began in September 2020, grants Netflix the first opportunity to consider their upcoming film and television projects across various genres.
The collaboration between the Sussexes and Netflix includes a broad slate of content, such as scripted series, documentaries, and children’s specials. Since signing the original deal, they have released notable projects, including the docuseries Harry & Meghan (2022), which chronicled their relationship and departure from senior royal duties, becoming Netflix’s most popular docuseries with 23.4 million viewers. Other releases include Heart of Invictus (2023), documenting competitors training for the Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry, and Live to Lead (2023), a docuseries featuring influential figures like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Greta Thunberg, and Jacinda Ardern.
Meghan, in a statement, expressed her excitement about the extended partnership, saying, "We're proud to continue our partnership with Netflix." The deal now encompasses their "As Ever" brand, reflecting an expanded creative vision working closely with Netflix and their Archewell team to produce globally resonant and thoughtful content.
Netflix's head of global TV, Bela Bajaria, explained the move, saying, "Harry and Meghan are influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences worldwide." The brand "As Ever," under which Meghan sells jam and other luxury food items like wine, will also be part of the collaboration.
Harry and Meghan currently reside in the US with their children, Prince Archie (5) and Princess Lilibet (3). Relations between Harry, Meghan, and the royals remain strained following various allegations.
In addition to the extended Netflix partnership, Archewell Productions is working on a documentary about orphaned children in Uganda, set to release on Netflix later this year. Furthermore, Meghan and Harry's cooking and baking show "With Love, Meghan" is set to air for its second season this month. Previous reviews of the first season in the UK were mixed, but the show has garnered a loyal following among fans of the couple.
