Netflix Announces Fate of Popular Cooking Show Amid Judge's Controversy Involvement

Judge Paik Jong-won under fire for alleged workplace harassment and disregard for food safety standards.

Title: Netflix's Culinary Class Wars: Judge Paik Jong-won in Hot Water Over Workplace Bullying and Food Regulation Issues

It seems the culinary world's hot-headed judge, Paik Jong-won, is stirring up controversy off the kitchen, as allegations of workplace bullying and food regulation violations have cast a shadow over the highly anticipated return of Netflix's competition show, Culinary Class Wars.

Tuesday's headlines exposed Jong-won to the authorities, with claims that his company, Theborn Korea, had breached country-of-origin labelling laws for food products. The soybean paste produced by the business was marketed as a domestic product, while it contained imported ingredients.

The controversy doesn't stop there. The Star unveiled accusations that Jong-won's business also violated the Farmland Act in South Korea, producing the soybean paste in an agricultural promotion zone which prohibits the use of foreign raw materials.

Former MBC producer Kim Jae-hwan added fuel to the fire, accusing the television personality of abusing power in a scathing YouTube video. Jae-hwan alleged that Jong-won demanded broadcasters to employ his preferred writers and production teams and quietly removed individuals Jong-won disliked from broadcasts.

Although not all employees shared Jae-hwan's experiences, the allegations have certainly raised eyebrows. Speaking to The Korea Times, an anonymous source explained, 'He worked with staff he met for the first time on set.'

But Jong-won publicly apologized to his company's shareholders during their annual general meeting, promising enhanced internal systems, improved ingredient management, and a new disclosure system to regain customer trust.

Returning as a judge on Culinary Class Wars, Paik Jong-won stands accused. The wildly popular unscripted Korean show, which pits 100 elite chefs against one another, topped Netflix's global mon-English series list for three consecutive weeks following its launch last September.

Gearing up for its second season, Netflix announced in December that it was actively recruiting participants. An advert on the streamer's website noted, 'Open to everyone, regardless of nationality or where you reside, the show's only requirement is confidence in your cooking skills.'

However, the release of MBC's new show, Chef of Antarctica, featuring Jong-won, has been delayed. Initially set to air this month, the program's exact airing date is yet to be announced, sparking rumors of indefinite postponement.

As of now, Culinary Class Wars Season 2 remains in production and is tentatively scheduled for release in the second half of 2025, though no exact date has been set. Despite the controversies surrounding Jong-won, Netflix has not indicated plans to alter his role in the show.

Tune in to see if the controversial chef can cook up a storm and win over the judging panel once again – drama guaranteed!
