Netflix and its cohorts launch six new series in August.
==============================================================
Amanda Knox, the American student who was at the centre of a global murder trial in Italy in 2007, now lives and works as a journalist in the US. Her story is being dramatized as a miniseries on Disney+, titled "The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox," set to premiere on August 20. The series will focus on her legal battle and the public demonization she faced.
Meanwhile, Wednesday Addams, the monosyllabic daughter of the Addams Family, has become an icon for Netflix with her Gothic look. The first season of the new Netflix series "Wednesday," starring Jenna Ortega, ended with a cliffhanger, leaving fans eager for more. The upcoming second season follows Wednesday as she returns to Nevermore Academy to face new foes and supernatural mysteries while navigating family, friends, and old adversaries.
The second season of "Wednesday" promises a darker, gorier, and sillier tone with a bone-chilling supernatural mystery at its core. It picks up immediately after season 1's cliffhanger where Wednesday receives photos from a mysterious stalker, indicating ongoing threats to her and the school. The season consists of eight episodes, split into two parts, with the first part premiering on August 6, 2025, and the second part on September 3, 2025. Tim Burton returns as director for some episodes, and new characters, including those played by Steve Buscemi and Joanna Lumley, will make appearances. A key plotline revealed in trailers involves Wednesday having a vision where her roommate Enid dies, and she strives to prevent that future at all costs.
In addition to "Wednesday," another popular series is getting a spin-off. "Outlander: Blood of my Blood" is a spin-off of the popular series "Outlander," premiering on Magenta TV on August 9. The series tells the family history of Jamie and Claire, the heroes of the original series, spanning two centuries.
A third season of "Wednesday" has been confirmed, and there are rumors of a spin-off about the eccentric Uncle Fester. Another series, "Chabos," a coming-of-age story, is available from Aug. 22 on ZDF-Mediathek, featuring Johannes Kienast as the main character.
Unfortunately, we also lost a queer icon from Lower Bavaria, Daniel Küblböck, also known as Lana Kaiser, who died in 2018 by jumping from a cruise ship into the sea off the coast of Newfoundland. A documentary series, "The Küblböck Story," is drawing a psychological portrait of Daniel Küblböck.
Lastly, "Alien: Earth" is a prequel television series about the Alien creature from another world, premiering on Disney+ on August 13.
