Netflix adds two films I'm eager to tick off my must-see list: a renowned comedy classic and a contemporary horror favorite.
Here’s the scoop on two films you shouldn't miss this June, streamed exclusively on Netflix:
1. The Blues Brothers (1980) - Classic comedy that's a damn sight entertaining
Let's face it, we all have a load of content we wish we had the time to watch. Bloody hell! There's only so many hours in a day, and we gotta do what we gotta do, like sweating our butts off in the gym or chatting with family. So here's a couple of movies I'm gunna make a bloody effort to watch from Netflix's June lineup: John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd star in the 1980 comedy The Blues Brothers and the 2022 horror/thriller Barbarian. both dropping on Netflix on June 1.
Belushi and Aykroyd play brothers Jake and Elwood who get a "mission from God" to reunite their old R&B band to save the church they grew up in. Filmmaker Gene Siskel raved about The Blues Brothers back in the day, calling it "the year's best film to date; one of the all-time great comedies; the best movie ever made in Chicago." So yeah, I reckon it's a bloody brilliant flick.
Even though I haven't seen it yet, I'm bloody excited to watch Belushi on the screen. He completely killed it in Animal House and some classic Saturday Night Live skits. Plus, there are some legendary musicians doing cameos, like James Brown and Ray Charles. Take that, mate!
And for something a bit more recent...
2. Barbarian (2022) - A hair-raising horror thriller
Barbarian caused quite a bitch of a stir when it came out last year, with director Zach Cregger receiving a 92% "Certified Fresh" score. I've not had a bloody look at it myself yet, but horror isn't necessarily my cup of tea. But it's definitely landed on my bloody to-watch list. The plot goes a little something like this: Georgina Campbell plays Tess Marshall, a woman who discovers a strange man, Bill Skarsgård, has double-booked her Detroit Airbnb. As they decide to share the house, they stumble upon a mysterious hidden basement and a bloody terrifying underground world. Guts and gore galore!
Bill Skarsgård does a wicked good job of playing the creepy, twisted villain, and Justin Long also stars in the flick. I reckon this bloody film is just what the doctor ordered, especially since Bill's got a new film called Weapons coming out in August. So, I'm bloody adding these two to my Netflix queue this month!
