Ness's Selection Revealed

In the recent state election held in Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) emerged as the clear winner. The party's candidates secured victories in all three direct mandates, with Dr. Jörg Geerlings (CDU) winning in constituency 45, Lutz Lienenkämper (CDU) in constituency 47, and Heike Troles (CDU) in constituency 46.

The election results in Neuss reflect a broader trend in North Rhine-Westphalia, where established parties have maintained their presence. The Greens, however, have experienced a significant surge, securing over 17% of the vote in the state election. This marks a significant shift in voter preferences, particularly in light of the party's less than 5% vote share in the 2017 Rhein-Kreis Neuss election.

Meanwhile, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) has suffered losses in the election, with no SPD candidate winning a direct mandate in Rhein-Kreis Neuss. Arno Jansen (SPD) came second in constituency 45 with 32.21% of the votes, while Marcel Knuppertz (SPD) and Birgit Burdag (SPD) followed closely in constituencies 47 and 46, respectively.

The Free Democratic Party (FDP), a coalition partner in the previous government, has suffered losses as well, failing to reach the necessary quota to continue the coalition. The preliminary results for the county-wide second votes show the CDU leading with 41.54%, followed by the SPD with 22.85%, the Greens with 16.44%, FDP with 7.21%, AfD with 4.58%, and The Left with 1.33%.

A total of 189,844 people cast their votes for the new state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia. The voter turnout was 57.6%, which is 10% lower than five years ago. The voter turnout for the direct mandates in Rhein-Kreis Neuss was not mentioned in the available results.

The vote presentation for the local election results was held at the Grevenbroich county house, hosted by Landrat Hans-Jürgen Petrauschke and moderated by press officer Benjamin Josephs.

While the Action Party for Animal Welfare (Aktion Partei für Tierschutz), a minor party advocating animal welfare, obtained around 0.7% of the vote in the 2017 North Rhine-Westphalia state election, more detailed local election reports or official state election results would be required to provide a precise and up-to-date breakdown of recent election results in Neuss specifically, including shifts in voter preferences in 2025.

The CDU's victory in the state election of Neuss indicates a continued dominance of established parties in North Rhine-Westphalia politics, as reflected in policy-and-legislation and general-news discourse. Simultaneously, the Greens have experienced a surge, shifting voter preferences and elevating their relevance in policy-and-legislation discussions.
