Nepal's temporary ruler pledges to eradicate governmental misconduct

In the heart of Nepal, the political landscape has been shaken by a wave of protests led by thousands of young protesters, demanding an end to corruption, good governance, and economic equality. The unrest, which marks the worst disturbance since the end of a decade-long civil war and the abolition of the monarchy in 2008, has claimed at least 72 lives and injured 191 during the two days of violent clashes.

The protests were initially sparked by a social media ban imposed by ousted Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli's government. However, they soon expanded to encompass broader issues concerning Nepal's economic woes. Despite the withdrawal of the social media ban, the protests continued, reflecting the deep-seated dissatisfaction among the youth of Nepal.

Amidst the chaos, Sushila Karki, a former chief justice, emerged as a beacon of hope. Thousands of young protesters, rallying on social media and the chat platform Discord, instilled Sushila Karki as their next leader. In response, President Ram Chandra Poudel dissolved parliament and set March 5 as the date for elections, based on the recommendation of the new prime minister, Sushila Karki.

Initially, Sushila Karki expressed reluctance to assume the role, stating that she did not wish to come to office in the current situation. However, she later pledged to address the demands of the protesters and promised to hand power to the next government within six months. Despite no specific date announced for her handover, Sushila Karki reiterated her commitment to following the demands of the protesters to 'end corruption.'

Sushila Karki also acknowledged that her name was brought to the position by activists using the Discord app. In a call for 'calm and cooperation to rebuild' Nepal, she urged all parties to work together towards a brighter future for the country.

As Nepal navigates through these challenging times, the installation of Sushila Karki as interim prime minister offers a glimmer of hope for those seeking change. The road ahead may be long and fraught with obstacles, but the resolve of the Nepalese people to demand justice and a better future remains undeterred.
