55-Year-Old Nepali Sherpa Breaks Mount Everest Record for 31st Ascent

Kami Rita Sherpa, a renowned Nepali guide, has established a new world record by summiting Mount Everest for an unprecedented 31st time. The historic ascent was achieved on May 27, 2025, at the age of 55, while leading a 22-member Indian Army expedition via the traditional southeast ridge route.Accompanying the group were 27 additional Sherpa guides. The expedition was organized by Seven Summit Treks, based in Kathmandu.

Kami Rita, born in Thame village, Solukhumbu, Nepal, first scaled Everest's peak in 1994. Since then, he has climbed the mountain almost every year, with the exception of three years when the peak was closed to climbers. Owing to his consistent achievements, he is popularly known as "Everest Man." Apart from Everest, Kami Rita has also summited major Himalayan peaks, including K2, Cho Oyu, Manaslu, and Lhotse.

The record-breaking ascent of Mount Everest emphasizes the crucial role of Sherpas in high-altitude mountaineering. Kami Rita's extensive experience and leadership have been integral to guiding numerous climbers to the summit of Mount Everest.
