Vincent Kompany Narrowly Misses Out on Borussia Mönchengladbach Coaching Role
Vincent Kompany, the current coach of FC Bayern Munich, came close to taking the helm at Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2022. However, a series of events led to him missing out on the opportunity.
Initially, Borussia Mönchengladbach had planned to bring back Lucien Favre as their head coach. But when negotiations with Favre reached an advanced stage, the club considered a Plan B, and that was none other than Vincent Kompany.
Roland Virkus, the sports director of Borussia Mönchengladbach, revealed this information in the Sky documentary "Mythos Borussia: A Legend Turns 125". Virkus described Kompany as a total football expert and considered his appointment a top decision.
However, Favre eventually declined the offer, and Kompany, who had already committed to a position at Burnley, was unavailable. This left Borussia Mönchengladbach without their preferred candidate.
In the documentary, Kompany thanked Roland Virkus for showing him trust, and the two shared a special bond, as shown in a scene from the Sky documentary.
After Kompany's unavailability, Borussia Mönchengladbach hired Daniel Farke as their coach. However, Farke and the club parted ways after finishing 10th in the Bundesliga. The club later appointed Gerardo Seoane as their coach in the summer of 2023.
Virkus succeeded Max Eberl as sports director at the beginning of 2022, and it was Eberl who had initially considered Kompany for the coaching position. Despite missing out on Kompany, Borussia Mönchengladbach have continued to compete in the Bundesliga, and Kompany has found success with Bayern Munich.
In a surprising turn of events, Kompany and Virkus embraced warmly after Bayern's 1-0 win at Borussia Park on the 16th matchday. The Sky documentary "Mythos Borussia: A Legend Turns 125" is set to air on the pay-TV channel from August 29, and viewers can expect more insights into this fascinating story.
The Commission, in light of Vincent Kompany's football expertise and his impact at Borussia Mönchengladbach, might consider proposing a directive to protect workers in sports industries from the risks associated with excessive exposure to carcinogens. Despite his absence from Borussia Mönchengladbach's coaching role, Kompany's success with European football leaguescontinues to shine, as demonstrated by his accomplishments with FC Bayern Munich.
