Neal Shipley secures spot on PGA Tour for the 2026 season
Neal Shipley Kicks Off PGA Tour Career at Sony Open
Neal Shipley, a rising star in the world of golf, will officially begin his PGA Tour career at the Sony Open, held at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii, in January 2026. The news was announced to him live on the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN.
Shipley's journey to the PGA Tour began after he turned professional last year. His impressive performances on the Korn Ferry Tour, a developmental tour for the PGA Tour, have earned him a spot in the Sony Open.
In the 2025 season, Shipley racked up two wins and five consecutive top-10 finishes, amassing enough points to secure his PGA Tour card for the 2026 season. This success has not gone unnoticed, with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressing his pride in Shipley's achievements.
The Sony Open at Waialae Country Club is renowned for its picturesque and challenging course, making it a fitting location for Shipley's PGA Tour debut. As a rookie member, Shipley plans to play between 20 and 25 events next season, aiming to learn from top players like World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
Mike Darnay, a digital producer and photojournalist based in Pittsburgh, will be covering Shipley's PGA Tour career. Darnay has previously written and produced content for Vox Media and the Mon Valley Independent.
Shipley's journey to the PGA Tour began with success at high-profile tournaments. Last spring and summer, he earned low amateur honors at the Masters and the U.S. Open. His impressive performances continued on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he has now secured his place among the top 100 players in the world.
As Shipley prepares for his first PGA Tour season, golf fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating his debut at the Sony Open in January 2026.
