Von Tiedemann was known for his down-to-earth, affectionate, and sometimes a little too crude sense of humor. Born Carl Ferdinand Hanns-Joachim Franz Friedrich von Tiedemann on October 20, 1943, in Stargard, Pomerania, his father was a Prussian Army general, and his mother, Fides, was a von Kleist. Due to the ravages of war, the family relocated to Hamburg in 1945. After completing an apprenticeship as a publishing salesman, von Tiedemann worked as a volunteer journalist at the "Cuxhavener Allgemeinen" and a police reporter for the "Hamburger Abendblatt."
He then spent three years as a correspondent for the Springer foreign service in Buenos Aires (Argentina). Throughout a career that spanned more than five decades, von Tiedemann shared the stage with media legends like Victoria Voncampe, Alida Gundlach, and later, Bettina Tietjen.
Committed to Children's Hospice
The beloved media star, affectionately known as "Barti" by his fans, has left a lasting impact on the people of Hamburg, where he served as the HSV stadium announcer from 1991 to 1998. Despite a couple of career setbacks in the 80s, von Tiedemann learned from his mistakes and focused on his family. The devout von Tiedemann was also a staunch supporter of the Hamburg children's hospice "Sternenbrücke."
