As NDR's Director General, Joachim Knuth, poignantly expressed: "When someone truly deserves the title 'NDR institution,' it's Carlo von Tiedemann. With his casual, spontaneous, and warm-hearted manner, he captivated several generations and remained one of our absolute audience favorites until the end." The broadcaster offered their sincerest condolences to his family.
A Phenomenal Career at NDR
Known for his inexhaustible flow of speech and a down-to-earth, affectionate, and earthy wit, von Tiedemann was born in Stargard, Pomerania in 1943. A survivor of polio and brain tumors, he made his way into the media industry after an apprenticeship as a publishing salesman. Giving Back: A Family Man and Humanitarian

However, von Tiedemann chose to grow from his experiences, taking responsibility for his mistakes and dedicating more time to his family. The deeply religious von Tiedemann also gave back to his community by supporting the Hamburg children's hospice foundation "Sternenbrücke."
More than just a media star, von Tiedemann showcased his compassion and commitment to family and charity throughout his life.
