NBC Universal Executive Openly Discusses Controversial Space Scene in Fast and Furious Movie
The Fast Saga, once a series of movies about street racers, has taken a turn for the extraordinary, and now, its chief, Donna Langley of NBC Universal, has expressed some regret about this cosmic journey.
At the 2021 Toronto Film Festival, Langley apologised for the decision to send the Fast & Furious crew into space in the film F9. "I'm sorry that we sent them into space," she said, adding, "We can never get that genie back" regarding the highly criticized rocket car scene to the International Space Station.
The infamous space trip in the Fast Saga is a reality, with Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson's characters literally taking an old Pontiac Fiero into space in a previous movie. The space odyssey, while receiving criticism, did not deter fans from watching the movies.
Rumours about taking the Fast Saga characters to space have been circulating for some time, with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg predicting that the Fast Saga would feature a space trip. Some fans believe the Fast Saga should have ended years ago, but still enjoy the increasingly outlandish plots and action sequences.
Despite the controversy, the Fast Saga continues to push boundaries. Fast 11, also known as Fast X: Part 2, is expected to be released in 2026, and it is likely to surprise long-time fans with its twists, turns, and timeline shenanigans.
However, Donna Langley has expressed concern about taking things too far in the Fast Saga. A potential scenario for the ending of the Fast Saga could be Dom, Letty, Mia, Tej, Roman, Ramsey, and new crew members being set up in a colony on the moon to track international crime and potential alien activity for earth governments. This could mark the end of the Fast Saga for Dom and his crew.
The Fast Saga, with its blend of fast cars, action, and outlandish plots, continues to captivate audiences, despite the occasional regret from those who greenlit its most out-there moments. As we eagerly await Fast 11, we can only wonder where the Fast Saga will take us next.
