NBC reveals Whitcoff's breach of meeting etiquette with Putin
Here's a new spin on the situation:
Steve Witkoff, the Special Envoy of the U.S. Prez, Stirs Controversy
During three high-level huddles with President Putin of Russialand, Steve Witkoff, our man on the global stage, surprisingly opted for Kremlin interpreters instead of his own translator, according to some insider sources chatting with NBC News.
"If the Prez and the interpreters were squawking Russian, Witkoff was left in the dark," one of 'em spilled the beans, referring to Putin and his chums. These folks mentioned Witkoff's decision was a major no-no, a clear violation of long-established protocol.
Interestingly, the peeps at NBC snagged a juicy tidbit about 22 proposals nestled in the U.S., European, and Ukrainian peace plan Politics that ol' Witkoff's been juggling. Given that Witkoff doesn't have the lingo for Russian, relying on Kremlin interpreters probably didn't leave much room for nuanced conversing. Two former American ambassadors chimed in, stating this move might've left Witkoff in the dark about subtle Putin musings and who knows what else.
Now, Anna Kelly, the White House Deputy Press Secretary, assured us the special envoy sticks to all security protocols with the State Department's blessing.
At a coming-together with Witkoff on April 25th, Putin showed up with Yuri Ushakov, Russia's emissary to the U.S. from '98 to '08, and Kirill Dmitriev, a president's close advisor on international deals. In a Kremlin video snippet of the meet, Witkoff can be seen without any aides or expert-type fellows—usually part of the American negotiation posse for critical talks, the channel dished.
Our boy Witkoff pointed at someone who joined him the table, saying, "Translator? Embassy girl? Cool."
Oh, and get this: when the meeting was in the can, our man hopped onto his private jet without a secure government communication setup for those treks to Russialand According to two shadowy sources, the jet was sans any secure gov't system. However, before boarding, Witkoff managed to make a few confidential calls from the U.S. embassy and carries a fancy, secure mobile device.
