NBA Team's Coach Criticizes National Rifle Association (Once More)
Golden State Warriors' Coach Advocates for Stricter Gun Control
Steve Kerr, the head coach of the struggling Golden State Warriors, has been vocal about his support for stricter gun control measures. During a home game on Dec. 9, 2020, Kerr expressed his belief that the safety of citizens should be prioritised over NRA funding.
Kerr's stance on gun control is not a new development. He has consistently advocated for stricter regulations and the removal of certain types of weapons. In October 2018, he stated his intention to vote for candidates who stand against the NRA and advocated for the removal of bump stocks, high-capacity magazines, and semi-automatic weapons.
The Warriors' coach is not alone in his advocacy. Organisations such as March for Our Lives and Moms Demand Action, as well as San Francisco itself, have labelled the NRA as a domestic terrorist organisation. March for Our Lives, an anti-gun group, has even published a 'Comprehensive Plan' that aims to abolish the right to keep and bear arms.
Kerr's public statements and actions regarding gun control have been aimed at raising awareness and advocating for change. During game two of the NBA Finals in June, he wore a shirt supporting the anti-gun group, March for Our Lives. His comments about gun control have been made to various news media outlets.
Despite his advocacy, the Warriors have faced criticism for their stance on gun control. The team has refused to make a customary visit to the White House during the Trump Administration, making only one appearance in 2015 while Barack Obama was still president.
As of the current paragraph, the Warriors have a 5-23 record and are in last place in the Western Conference. Despite their struggles on the court, Kerr's advocacy for gun control remains a consistent part of his public persona. The team, based in San Francisco, continues to support their coach's efforts to promote stricter gun regulations.
