NBA star John Wall concludes his career following an 11-year tenure with the Wizards, Clippers, and Rockets.
After an illustrious 11-year career in the NBA, John Wall has announced his retirement in August 2025. The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, who played primarily for the Washington Wizards, made his mark in the league with his electrifying play and numerous achievements.
Wall's last season in the NBA was with the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2022-23 season, where he appeared in 34 games, averaging 11.4 points and 5.2 rebounds. His professional journey, however, took a detour before reaching the Clippers, as he parted ways with the Houston Rockets ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Wall's tenure with the Rockets in the 2020-21 campaign saw him feature in 40 games, averaging 20.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 6.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 32.2 minutes per contest. Despite his impressive statistics, he was waived by the Grizzlies before appearing in a single game with the club.
Wall's time with the Clippers began when he signed a two-year deal in July 2022. Prior to that, his last appearance in the NBA was with the Rockets during the 2020-21 season.
Injuries had a significant impact on Wall's career trajectory, with major setbacks including a knee injury in 2017, a heel injury in 2018-19, and a ruptured Achilles tendon, which affected his performance in later seasons. Despite these challenges, Wall continued to be a key leader and was widely regarded as a franchise legend in Washington due to his high level of play and impact on the team and fans.
Throughout his career, Wall amassed several accolades, including being a five-time NBA All-Star, an All-NBA Third Team selection in the 2016-17 season, an NBA All-Defensive Second Team member in 2014-15, and the NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion in 2014. He also set personal and team records with multiple triple-doubles in various seasons.
Wall's best statistical season was in 2016-17, where he averaged 23.1 points, 10.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game, leading the Wizards to a 49-33 record.
As he moves on from his playing career, Wall has expressed his desire to stay involved in basketball. His goals include pursuing opportunities in broadcasting and potentially becoming a General Manager one day.
