NBA Best Bets Today - April 29th
Game 5: Los Angeles Clippers at Denver Nuggets - 10:00 pm ET
While my wallet is heavily invested in this series, I won't put anything on the Clippers for this game. I have Los Angeles to win the series (+120), the West (+1700), and the title (+5000). With that aside, I'm still backing the Clippers to win this match with a strong lean that counts towards my record.
After Denver reclaimed home-court advantage in the last game, it's clear that the Clippers have been the better team overall in this series. The Clippers almost lost in Game 1 and Game 4 after a subpar performance, but showed resilience by coming back in the fourth quarter.
Denver won Game 4 by a close two-point margin thanks to Aaron Gordon's buzzer-beating tip-in dunk, but that required a monstrous effort from Nikola Jokic (36 points, 21 rebounds, and 8 assists) and a cold shooting night from the Clippers. The Nuggets allowed opponents to shoot a higher 3-point percentage than only six teams after the All-Star break, so it's unlikely that the Clippers, who ranked third in 3-point percentage (39.0%) this season, will struggle as much from deep again.
James Harden and Kawhi Leonard combined for only 39 points in Game 4, but both have shown success in finding favorable matchups and attacking them in this series. Expect another strong effort from the duo in Game 5.
Coach Ty Lue has proven to be one of the best in basketball, and his team is 48-37 straight-up when coming off a loss in which they were favored. After the lackluster performance in the previous game, Lue will likely have his team ready to go.
The Nuggets' rotation could be thin if Michael Porter Jr. is suspended for leaving the bench during an altercation in Game 4. Even without Jrue Holiday, the Celtics will keep the defense honest, pushing other players to take shots. Cory Joseph, who has scored at least six points in the last three games, is a prime candidate.
Strong Lean: Clippers ML (-122 - 1.5 units)
NBA Player Props Today - April 29th
Game 5: Orlando Magic at Boston Celtics - 8:30 pm ET
It's hard to believe, but I'm leaning toward the Over on Cory Joseph points in a playoff game. Joseph's point total is set at 5.5 for this game, and he has scored at least six points in three consecutive games.
The Magic are short-handed with Jalen Suggs out for the season, and the Celtics are targeting Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero, tempting other players to beat them. Junior Holiday is out for Game 5, which further decreases elite guard defense for the Celtics. If Joseph avoids turning down quality looks, he should hit the over.
Bet: Joseph Over 5.5 Points (-105)
Additional Plays
This is where I'll include any late added plays, teasers/parlays, or in-season futures. Come back before the games start if you don't want to miss anything. It's possible I'll add something to my card.
PARLAY: Pacers ML vs. Bucks & Pistons Alt +12.5 vs. Knicks (-133 - 1.5 units)
