The basketball court was not the only battleground on December 30, 2022, as the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Atlanta Hawks. The game was interrupted by an unexpected feud between two players - Trae Young and Patrick Beverley.

The feud, which started on September 12, was reignited during the game, with Beverley accusing Young of being a bad leader and a bad teammate. Beverley, known for his defensive prowess, used his playoff record as ammunition, highlighting his nine appearances compared to Young's three.

Young, however, remained unfazed. He stated that he was never scared of Beverley on the court and challenged him to name the unnamed Hawks players who supposedly criticized him. Young's average statistics against Beverley in seven career games are impressive, with 28.4 points, 11.4 assists, and 3.3 rebounds.

In response, Young criticized Beverley for his petty celebrations and pointed out that he has won play-in games on the road, while Beverley has won them at home. Young also advised Beverley to let All-Stars speak for themselves and to avoid disrespectful remarks.

The response from Young was not immediate, but he did address the accusations on his podcast on December 30. Jeff Teague, a former Hawks player, publicly defended Young's leadership and influence, describing him as the franchise player carrying enormous pressure. Teague also praised Beverley's role as a defensive enforcer but noted that Beverley is not a 28-point scorer like Young.

Despite the back-and-forth, the feud between Young and Beverley remains unresolved. Fans have backed Young, citing his statistics against Beverley which undercut Beverley's "lockdown defender" reputation. As of now, it seems the rivalry between these two players is far from over.
