Hilarious Hoaxes and Pranks Ruined NFL Draft Day for Some Hopefuls

NBA Draft Night Calls Posed as Scam for Several Prospects, Including Abdul Carter and Shedeur Sanders: Account

Welcome to our sports coverage! Here's what's creating a buzz on Foxnews.com.

Not even the prestigious NFL Draft was immune to pranksters last week. Among the prospective players, Abdul Carter, the New York Giants' third overall pick, became a victim.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported a prank call during the second pick of the draft, which the Jacksonville Jaguars traded into from the Cleveland Browns. The prank claimed that Carter would be taken with the second pick. Drew Rosenhaus, Carter's agent, was less than thrilled, telling ESPN, "It's a damn shame that these private numbers are getting to the people making these prank calls. Abdul and I knew it was BS and didn't even bother telling his family about the call."

Carter's excitement was short-lived, as the Giants genuinely picked him with the next pick. But he wasn't the only one experiencing prank call chaos.

Several others were also subjected to fake calls, with the incident surrounding Shedeur Sanders being the most publicized.

The Infamous Shedeur Sanders Prank: A $250,000 Lesson for the Atlanta Falcons

The NFL fined the Atlanta Falcons $250,000 and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich $100,000 due to the leak of Sanders' private phone number. The prank call involved Ulbrich’s son, 21-year-old Jax, who inadvertently found the number on an open iPad and used it for a prank call. Although Jax himself didn't place the call, one of his friends impersonated the New Orleans Saints' general manager, Mickey Loomis. Jax later issued an apology stating, "what I did was inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful."

Apart from Sanders and Carter, several other promising prospects, like Tyler Warren (Penn State), Kyle McCord, Mason Graham, and Chase Lundt, fell victim to unrelated prank calls[1][2][3][4].

In the light of such incidents, it's worth noting that the NFL sends out a memo every year containing players' phone numbers, marked as "confidential." The memo is sent to the general manager, head coach, and player personnel director of every team, and that is all. Every owner, head coach, and GM must certify in writing that no violations occurred, including the "sharing of non-public information."
