Naxal Violence in Bijapur: Threat Elements Eliminated in Firefight
In two separate encounters in the forested regions of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, two female Naxals were killed this week.
On Wednesday, an encounter took place in the forest adjoining Modaske Village under Police Station Gatta Jambhiya in Etapalli Taluka, Maharashtra. The security operation was led by Additional SP Aheri Satya Sai Karthik and involved 5 C60 units. The Gatta LOS (Local Organisational Squad), a Maoist group, were reportedly involved in the encounter.
During the operation, the Maoists opened fire indiscriminately when the C60 contingent was searching the jungle area. The security forces retaliated effectively, resulting in a fierce gunfight. Two female Maoist bodies, an automatic AK-47 rifle, a sophisticated pistol, live ammunition, a large amount of literature, and belongings were recovered from the encounter site.
In a separate incident, two Naxals were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Wednesday. The exact date is not specified, but the encounter occurred during a search operation launched by security forces in the district due to the presence of Naxals in the south-western region. The Gatta Jambhiya Post party and CRPF E Coy 191 Bn assisted the operation team in laying the outer cordon.
Arms and ammunition have been recovered from both encounter sites. However, no information is provided about the identity of the Naxals involved in these encounters or any injuries or casualties among the security forces.
Neelotpal, Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli, made the statement about the encounter in Maharashtra, while no further details about the encounter in Chhattisgarh have been released yet.
These encounters are separate from the one that took place in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district earlier. The location of the encounters is Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district and Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district respectively.
The police are investigating these incidents further to gather more information about the Naxal activities in these regions.
