Nordic-Baltic Countries Unite to Support Ukraine in Peace Efforts

The Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) countries have collectively reaffirmed their commitment to upholding and imposing restrictive measures against the Russian Federation, in response to Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.

The NB8, consisting of Latvia, Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, and Sweden, have emphasized the importance of allowing the people of Ukraine to decide their own future. They have also reaffirmed the principle that international borders must not be changed by force.

In a joint statement, the Prime Ministers of the NB8 countries, including Prime Minister Evika Siliņa on behalf of Latvia, expressed their readiness to contribute to this work diplomatically. The statement also welcomed President Trump's initiative to help end the war and lay the foundations for a just and enduring peace.

Negotiations, according to the NB8, can only take place in the context of a ceasefire. The statement further underscores the conviction that a diplomatic solution is necessary to safeguard Ukraine's vital security interests and Europe's.

President Zelenskyy of Ukraine has stated that Ukraine is ready for peace talks in full respect of its sovereignty, as per the NB8 countries. The NB8 countries have pledged to continue providing substantial military and financial support to Ukraine.

The NB8 countries will also continue to work closely with the United States, Ukraine, and other partners to seek a peace that is just, lasting, and rooted in the principles of the UN Charter, the Helsinki Final Act, and international law. The NB8 countries share an unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

Regarding the role of the United States in the peace negotiations, the joint statement mentions a 'doubtful MAGA general' being present, associated with Trump, with preparations for a peace summit in Budapest mentioned. However, no specific name is clearly identified in the available sources.

The NB8 countries have reiterated that they will remain at Ukraine's side, united in purpose and resolute in defense of their security. This stance reflects a strong and united front in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
