Nauryz Celebration at KazNMU Blends AI and Kazakh Heritage in Stunning Fashion Show
Nauryz, one of Central Asia's oldest holidays, has been celebrated with a fresh twist at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University. The event blended tradition with modern technology, focusing on the cultural significance of Kazakh national clothing. Students and faculty gathered to mark the occasion on March 18, designated as the Day of National Clothing within the university's calendar. The celebration formed part of Kazakhstan's broader 'Nauryznama' decade, running from March 14 to 23. Each day of the festival highlighted different cultural, social, and spiritual themes, reflecting the holiday's core values of renewal, unity, and generational continuity.
At the university, organisers used artificial intelligence to create a unique fashion show. Digital presentations merged the faces of students and staff with traditional Kazakh garments, offering a modern take on heritage attire. The event also featured a theatrical performance of the 'Syrga Salu' ritual, explaining its symbolic meaning and educational role in Kazakh customs. Traditional clothing, such as the tubeteika and chapan robes, took centre stage. These garments, once seen as purely historical, now influence contemporary fashion. The university's goal was to educate young people about their cultural roots while showing how tradition adapts to modern life. The festivities wrapped up with a lively fair and closing speeches. The Head of the Department shared optimism about the future, emphasising the importance of cultural pride in shaping the next generation.
