Marking a significant event for NATO since its expansion in 1999, the Alliance will conduct a series of exercises, named Steadfast Defender-24 (STDE-24), primarily in Central Europe next year. anticipated participation of approximately 90,000 soldiers from all NATO member states, Sweden, and Poland.
As one of the host nations, Poland will play a crucial role, welcoming a multitude of soldiers and equipment from various allied countries.

STDE-24 and DR-24 are expected to be the largest display of the Alliance's defense capabilities since the first wave of NATO's enlargement in 1999, including Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. The overlapping exercise landscape includes national exercises like Dragon-24, the U.S. European Command's Defender-24, and other exercises such as Brave Griffin 24/II.
DR-24 will test Poland's ability to respond to a potential multidimensional military crisis. This exercise, involving about 20,000 soldiers, 3,500 units of equipment from 10 NATO countries, and approximately 15,000 Polish soldiers, aims to strengthen the Alliance's deterrence and defense potential, demonstrating the power of unity arising from its members.
Soldiers will be tested in interoperability and combat task execution across various domains, including land, air, sea, and cyberspace. The exercise will also involve troops from the 11th Lubusz Armored Cavalry Division and special forces, air force, navy, and territorial defense troops.
The exercise will consist of two phases: the first phase will involve operations during a crisis situation, and the second phase will be part of a defensive operation. Key elements include the crossing of the Vistula River by allied troops and the movement of the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), linking DR-24 with the exercise BRILLIANT JUMP-24.
This means that both wheeled and tracked military vehicles will also move on public roads throughout Poland during the exercise's operational requirements.
