The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) will be conducting its annual nationwide test of warning systems on the second Thursday of September, this year falling on the 16th. The event, scheduled from 10:00 to 12:00, will take place on the Greifswald market square.

During the test, the BBK will trigger a test warning via the Modular Warning System, which is connected to numerous warning channels. These include the NINA and KATWARN warning apps, radio and television, and the Broadcell system. Occasional voice announcements will be heard in the Greifswald city area, and sirens will sound during the test.

The purpose of the test is to assess warning possibilities in civil and disaster protection. The voice announcements are tested to ensure future warning texts are understandable in terms of speaking speed and tone height.

The Greifswald Fire Department and German Red Cross will have an information booth on the Greifswald market square from 10:00 to 12:00. They will answer questions about 'warning the population' and present the 'Population Protection from the Box' project.

Kindergarten groups and school classes are invited to familiarise themselves with the topic. The 'Population Protection from the Box' project will be presented during the event. Further information can be found on the BBK's website.

The test warning will be lifted for most warning means around 11:45 AM. However, no specific time is given for the lifting of the test warning on social media.

The Greifswald Fire Department will share important information about the topic on social media. They encourage everyone to stay informed and participate in the event.
