Nationwide Tactical Flight Exercise Kicks Off with Training Course by BPOLD at 11AM
Federal Police Aviation Group Kicks Off 44th Training Course for Helicopter Pilots
The Federal Police Aviation Group, based in Sankt Augustin near Bonn, is preparing for the 44th training course for professional helicopter pilots. This comprehensive training, scheduled to begin on September 22, 2025, will involve 13 helicopters from the federal government and various state police forces.
One of the main focuses of the training is the deepening of previously taught police tactical content in different deployment areas. The officers will also become familiar with formation flight procedures, a significant step within the final phase of their training.
Since autumn 2023, these officers have been undergoing an approximately 22-month course to become professional helicopter pilots at the aviation school for police service in Sankt Augustin. The school trains police officers from federal and state governments to become pilots, contributing to the growth of the Federal Police Aviation Group's fleet of 93 helicopters, making it the second-largest operator of civil aircraft in Germany after Lufthansa.
The Federal Police Aviation Group acts as a service provider for the Federal Police and other federal and state authorities with security-related tasks. This includes regular provision of air transport capacity for federal police intervention forces and support for international authorities and organizations, such as the European Border and Coast Guard Agency FRONTEX.
The operational flight operations of the Federal Police Aviation Group primarily support the daily tasks of the Federal Police, including border, rail, and maritime surveillance. After the license handover on December 11, 2025, the newly trained officers will join one of the federal police or state police flying squadrons as an integral part of internal security and reliable friends and helpers from the air.
The training course will be visible in formation flight over several major cities, with the planned route for the exercise being from Sankt Augustin to Gifhorn, Hamburg, Fuhlendorf, Barth, Neubrandenburg, Blumberg, Bautzen, Kassel-Calden, and back to Sankt Augustin from September 22 to September 26, 2025. Inquiries regarding the training content and further requests can be directed to [email protected].
The Federal Police Aviation Group consists of the maintenance operation, the aviation school for police service, and six Federal Police Aviation Squadrons in various locations. The Group supports the mission of maintaining law and order in the skies, ensuring the safety of the nation.
