Nationwide Alert Day on September 12th - Mobile Sirens to Wail in Bremen for First Time (Originally: Fourth nationwide warning day on 12 September - Four mobile sirens will sound in Bremen for the first time)

On Thursday, September 12, Bremen will join cities across Germany in conducting the nationwide Civil Defense Drill. This marks the fourth such drill in Bremen, with the city deploying mobile sirens for the first time during the exercise.

The drill aims to test the functionality of emergency alert systems, prepare civil authorities, and familiarise residents with warning signals. In Bremen, four mobile sirens will be strategically placed at the Bürgerweide, in the Überseestadt, and at two locations in the university area.

During the drill, messages will be broadcast on radio and television, and warning apps like NINA will be triggered. To avoid unnecessary alarm, it is suggested to inform relatives and close contacts about the drill. Simultaneously, fire departments in Bremen and Bremerhaven will use social media channels to keep citizens informed.

In Bremerhaven, church bells will ring during the drill, adding an additional layer to the warning system. The one-minute warning tone during the drill will be "Warning of danger." An all-clear will be given 45 minutes later.

It is important to note that no recommendation for action will be given to the population during the drill, as it is a test. However, preparing for the nationwide warning via various information channels is advised.

Last year, 96 percent of the population were reached by at least one warning means. To gather feedback on the drill and improve the warning system, an online survey is available at www.warntag-umfrage.de from the drill until 24:00 on September 19.

The use of mobile sirens in Bremen during the drill is a significant step towards enhancing the city's emergency preparedness. Mobile sirens can be moved to different areas in real warning situations, ensuring a broad reach of the population.

This drill serves as a reminder to the population of the importance of taking warnings about impending dangers seriously and protecting themselves in an emergency. By participating in these drills, cities like Bremen are demonstrating their commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of their residents.

The drill, focused on emergency preparedness, integrates various information channels such as radio, TV, and apps like NINA, to relay warning signals. Additionally, the integration of mobile sirens in political and general news topics like war-and-conflicts and civil defense, fosters a collective readiness for potential crises.
