National Simulacro 2025: Seismic Alert Tone to Resound on September 19 Across Mexico on Mobile Devices

President Claudia Sheinbaum recently discussed the upcoming National Simulation in a meeting. This exercise, scheduled for September 19, is designed to commemorate the earthquakes that occurred in 1985 and 2017.

The simulation will involve all 32 states of Mexico. In some states, such as Durango, Guanajuato, and Tamaulipas, a hypothesis of an urban fire will be handled. However, it's important to note that this simulation does not involve an earthquake scenario or the participation of Laura Velázquez Alzúa.

The National Civil Protection Coordinator, Laura Velázquez Alzúa, has established the disaster scenarios for various regions. For instance, in Campeche, Yucatán, Sonora, Quintana Roo, and Baja California Sur, the simulation will be based on a hypothesis of a hurricane. On the other hand, Baja California will simulate a tsunami scenario, but not an earthquake or urban fire scenario.

The seismic alert, a crucial part of the National Simulation, will be issued on all cell phones in Mexico on September 19. Besides cell phones, the alert will also be broadcast on loudspeakers, radio stations, and television channels. The hypothetical earthquake epicenter is Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.

It's worth mentioning that the seismic alert is not just a drill. It will be a real alert, issued simultaneously in all states of Mexico, serving as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for disasters.

In Durango, Guanajuato, and Tamaulipas, the location of the simulated urban fire is not specified. Similarly, the locations of the simulated tsunami in Baja California and the hypothetical hurricane in other states have not been disclosed.

The National Simulation is a significant step towards ensuring Mexico's readiness for potential disasters. It underscores the importance of collaboration, preparedness, and vigilance in the face of natural calamities.
