National Security Advisor of Trump is stepping down from the job.
Exclusive: National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Deputy Alex Wong Step Down
It's been reported by our site, and corroborated by multiple sources, that White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and his deputy Alex Wong have tendered their resignations. The latest news comes courtesy of CBS.
No official statements have been issued as yet, but our sources close to the situation confirm it.
Back in March, Waltz found himself in hot waters over a Signal chat mishap. He included Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg in the conversation, which centered around plans for a military strike on Yemen's Houthi targets. The discussion included classified information, such as the timing of the strikes and the weapon packages used.
Initially, Goldberg published a report without operational details. However, after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe denied the sharing of classified information in the chat, Goldberg revealed the truth.
Amidst speculations of Waltz's resignation, he held on and received the president's backing.
According to a source familiar with the National Security Council (NSC), the president feels enough time has passed since the Signal incident to present Waltz's and Wong's resignations as part of a reorganization.
Meanwhile, Politico hints at Stephen Biegun, Trump's special envoy, taking over Waltz's position.
Wong served as deputy special representative for North Korea and deputy assistant secretary for East Asian and Pacific affairs at the State Department during Trump's first term. He was instrumental in facilitating talks for Trump's summit with Kim Jong Un, North Korea's leader.
So, what does this mean for the National Security Council and the White House? Stay tuned for more updates as we dig deeper!
