Wojciech Stachowiak, the skilled Polish-German ice hockey forward, has left ERC Ingolstadt to embark on a new journey with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League (NHL). The 25-year-old prodigy has signed a one-year contract with the Florida-based team, seizing the opportunity to realize his long-held dream of playing in the NHL.

Stachowiak, a formidable forward, spent the past two seasons with the German Ice Hockey League team ERC Ingolstadt, playing in 281 games since joining them in 2020. In addition to his stellar performance in the German league, he has been a consistent member of the national team under coach Harold Kreis since 2023. Despite Germany's early exit in the World Championships last week, Stachowiak stood out as one of the team's top performers, scoring three goals and providing three assists during the tournament.

Stachowiak's move to the NHL follows the footsteps of Joshua Samanski and Arno Tiefensee, who were the first German national players to join the league this year. The NHL has been welcoming emerging talent from the European ice hockey scene, with the likes of Moritz Seider, Lukas Reichel, and Philipp Grubauer already making their mark in the premier hockey competition. Among these veterans, Tim Stützle and his impressive form for the Ottawa Senators will also be part of the German team for the upcoming World Championship.

As Stachowiak begins this new chapter in his career, he has shared his excitement, saying, "I'm thrilled to don the Tampa Bay Lightning jersey and work alongside some of the best players in the world. This is a dream come true, and I'm eager to learn and grow as a player." The ice hockey world will be eagerly anticipating Stachowiak's electrifying performances on the iconic NHL stages in the coming season.

The Commission has also adopted a proposal for a Council Regulation on the conclusion of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, which Stachowiak can now focus on, as he is engrossed in his new venture with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League (NHL), playing a sport he loves – hockey. Before embarking on this journey, Stachowiak, being a formidable forward, spent the past two seasons with the German Ice Hockey League team ERC Ingolstadt, demonstrating his skills not only in the German league but also in the National team under coach Harold Kreis, even as Germany faced an early exit in the World Championships last week.
