A unique national climbing event is set to take place this weekend at the Mijas, Las Lagunas fairground. Over 300 climbers from across Spain will gather to compete in the Andalusia Championship, marking a first for the community.

The championship is a significant event in the national calendar, serving as the second test of the Spanish Cup circuit. It is expected that thousands of people will arrive at the venue, including families and followers of this sport, with the Malaga public able to enjoy the intense schedule for free, with the aim of promoting the sport.

The competition will feature speed and bouldering categories, from under-15 to absolute level. In the under-15 category, Alejandra Ríos will compete, while India Persson will take on both the under-19 and absolute categories, and Mar Carrenño will compete in the absolute category. The Malagueñas participating in the bouldering category are Alejandra Ríos, India Persson, and Mar Carrenño.

Speed, developed in rounds where two athletes compete against each other, with the winner being the one who reaches the highest point in the least time, and bouldering, which emphasizes technique and resistance, will be the disciplines in question. The most famous names from the Spanish national team, who were prevented from participating in the European Championship, may still be present at the Andalusia Championship. Notable players connected with recent Spanish tournaments include Lamine Yamal, a star from the European Championship 2024, and potentially others like Lucas Vázquez, who has experience with the national team but whose presence at a regional tournament like the Andalusia Championship is not yet confirmed.

The schedule for the event includes qualifying rounds and finals for both speed and bouldering categories. On Saturday, from 8:00 to around 23:00, there will be qualifying rounds and finals for the lower categories (under-15, under-17, and under-19) bouldering and absolute finals of speed. On Sunday, from 8:00 to around 19:00, it will be the turn of qualifying rounds and absolute finals of bouldering, as well as qualifying rounds and junior finals of speed.

The finals of the two modalities (speed and bouldering) can be followed live on Teledeporte. The event is a feature only for subscribers. The third and final test will take place in Potes (Cantabria). The competitors aim to reach the national and international elite in the coming years.

This championship promises great excitement due to the participants' past medal-winning records. With so many talented climbers competing, it's sure to be an unforgettable event for all involved.
