National cricket figures RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha poised to assume new roles as national selectors, under supervision of Ajit Agarkar, as per reports.
Former Indian Cricketers Pragyan Ojha and Rudra Pratap Singh Join BCCI National Selector Panels
Pragyan Ojha and Rudra Pratap Singh, two distinguished names from Indian cricket's past, are set to join the BCCI national selector panels. Ojha will be part of the South Zone panel, while Singh will represent the Central Zone.
Ojha, who retired from cricket in 2020, will join the BCCI national selector panel following the clearance from the Cricket Advisory Committee ahead of the BCCI's Annual General Meeting. The left-arm spinner played international cricket from 2008 to 2013, appearing in 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and 6 T20Is, with 144 wickets to his name, largely in Test cricket. His best cricket was played in the domestic circuit for Hyderabad, Bihar, and Bengal before his retirement.
One of Ojha's most memorable performances came in his final international game, which was also the last match of Sachin Tendulkar. He took a 10-wicket haul in that match, a fitting end to a successful career. Ojha claimed 113 of his 144 international wickets in red-ball cricket.
Rudra Pratap Singh, on the other hand, represented India in 82 international matches, securing 124 wickets across 14 Tests, 58 One Day Internationals, and 10 T20 Internationals. He was one of the heroes of India's 2007 T20 World Cup triumph, bowling astutely in the Test series in England preceding the tournament. Singh also represented Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket and was part of the Parthiv Patel-led Gujarat team that lifted the Ranji Trophy in 2016-17.
The Cricket Advisory Committee is likely to clear the names of both Singh and Ojha ahead of the BCCI's Annual General Meeting. S Sharath will chair the junior selection committee, taking over from Tilak Naidu. Singh, who previously represented the national selection committee, and Ojha, with their extensive on-field knowledge and experience from various domestic and international formats, are expected to bring valuable insights to the BCCI national selector panels.
