Captain Johannes Golla of SG Flensburg-Handewitt has shared his squad's aspirations for the upcoming European Championships, which will commence in Germany in January. In a podcast by Schleswig-Holsteinischer Zeitungsverlag (sh:z), Golla stated, "I can't offer a ranking just yet, but there's a sense among us in the team that we're dreaming of the semi-finals. As athletes, our aim is to turn these dreams into reality. If we push ourselves to the brink, we can do it," Golla explained .
The 26-year-old pivot expressed uncertainty about their standing thanks to the demanding group stage that consists of Switzerland, North Macedonia, and France. According to Golla, success hinges on the team's performance during those initial matches: "Our preliminary round group isn't to be undervalued. After the group stage, we'll know what's achievable," he added.
On January 10, the German team will take on Switzerland in their opening match, expected to be held before over 50,000 spectators in the Düsseldorf soccer stadium. Golla, who joined Flensburg-Handewitt in 2018 from MT Melsungen, also addressed speculations of a return to North Hesse, stating: "I'm not considering joining any other club aside from the SG at present. I still have two more years left on my contract here. At this stage, there's no point in pondering the future. As an athlete, I relish living in the moment and making the most out of it. I see a lot of potential here," Golla reaffirmed .
