National Alert Day Declared by the Federal Government

On Thursday, September 11th, the fifth nationwide civil defense drill will take place. This exercise, organised by the Technical Relief Agency (Technisches Hilfswerk, THW), will test warning systems for crisis and disaster situations at the federal, state, and local levels.

In Aschaffenburg, the "Warning to the Population" signal will sound at 11 AM. This will be a one-minute continuous wail from the sirens. For those in other areas, information on what to do can be found on the website https://warnung.bund.de.

During the drill, a warning message will be sent directly to mobile phones and smartphones via the "Cell Broadcast" mobile service. Upon receiving this warning text, a loud tone will sound. Unlike other warning systems like NINA, Cell Broadcast does not require an app to be installed to receive the alert.

An all-clear signal will be issued via sirens and various other warning channels around 11:45 AM. This signal will not be a continuous wail like the "Warning to the Population" signal. It's important to note that the all-clear signal will not be sent via the Cell Broadcast mobile service.

The website https://warnung.bund.de lists all nationwide warning messages. This website provides comprehensive information on what to do in case of an emergency when warned via various channels. It's recommended to familiarise yourself with this information to ensure you know what to do in an emergency situation.

The nationwide civil protection exercise is an important step in ensuring that Germany's warning systems are effective and ready for use in case of a real emergency. By participating in these drills, emergency personnel can train and prepare for potential crisis situations, ensuring the safety of the public.
