Saying Goodbye to Bayern Munich, Hello to America? Klinsmann Optimistic about Müller's MLS Future

Nation eagerly anticipates Thomas Müller's upcoming football event across the U.S.

Facebook Twitter Whatsapp E-Mail Print Copy Link Thomas Müller's final games for FC Bayern are on the horizon, and his future remains a mystery. But Jürgen Klinsmann may have some exciting ideas.

With golf rounds, friendly gatherings, and horse shows with his wife Lisa, Müller savored a brief vacation. But as the 35-year-old slips on the red Bayern jersey one final time on this Thursday, preparing for the Club World Cup (June 14 to July 13) in the United States with a makeshift squad alongside Jamal Musiala, the summer ahead is uncertain.

There's only one certainty: the Club World Cup marks Müller's final match for Bayern. Today, the reigning champions kick off their preparations for the globe-trotting tournament boasting 32 teams.

"Playing in America," Müller mused in his newsletter, "is an alluring prospect. Let's stir up a bit of football excitement. Maybe even set the stage for the 2026 World Cup. I see a lot of potential in American football."

Could Müller Be America's Darling?

Football enthusiasts have been buzzing about a possible Müller move to Major League Soccer (MLS) post-Club World Cup. Reports suggest that Los Angeles FC, Bayern's partner MLS club, harbors a deep interest in the 13-time German champion. Rumors also swirl about Cincinnati, San Diego, and Dallas.

"The whole of America would be ecstatic if he played a few more years," said Jürgen Klinsmann, a California resident. "He'd be the league's banner player next to superstar Lionel Messi. And the USA," added Klinsmann, the former national coach, "is the heart of the football world until at least the summer of '26. With Müller at the center?"

Müller's Focus on Club World Cup, But Eyes on Future

Silent for now, Müller is focused on his final act with Bayern at the Club World Cup. Bayern faces Auckland, Benfica Lisbon, and Boca Juniors in the preliminary rounds. "That's what gets the football pulse racing," said Müller. "The excitement and camaraderie of tournaments like the World Cup, European Championship, or now the Club World Cup has always grabbed me: You step onto the pitch as a team, put in four to six weeks of intense grind."

Winning this tournament is a tantalizing prospect for Müller, rewarded with a hefty sum of around €110 million for the inaugural victory. If Müller were to pull off the last great triumph, he would surpass his pal Toni Kroos as the most successful German footballer with 35 titles. Yet more trophies may lie ahead.
