NASCAR's dominance on the racetrack continues with Shane van Gisbergen's victory at Watkins Glen, cementing his title as the series' road-racing monarch.
In a historic achievement, Shane van Gisbergen has joined an elite group of drivers in NASCAR Cup Series history by winning four consecutive street or road course races. The New Zealander's latest victory came at Watkins Glen International, marking an impressive rookie season in the series.
Van Gisbergen started the race in second position but quickly took the lead on Lap 25. He held onto this position until the finish line, crossing it with an 11.116-second margin over Christopher Bell. With this win, he trails only Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson for active road course victories in the NASCAR Cup Series.
The four straight victories came at Mexico City, Chicago, Sonoma, and Watkins Glen events in 2025. Van Gisbergen's achievement follows that of Chase Elliott, who did it during the 2019-2020 period, and NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon, who accomplished it earlier in his career.
Other top performers in the Watkins Glen race included Chris Buescher, William Byron, and Chase Briscoe, who finished in the top five positions, respectively.
