In a thrilling encounter in the Champions League, Hungarian powerhouse Veszprém secured their first victory of the season against French side Nantes, who are yet to taste victory in the competition.

The first half of the game was dominated by Veszprém, with Hugo Descat scoring an impressive eight goals and Nedim Remili adding six more. The former PSG player Rodrigo Corrales, who is set to return to the French capital next season, made a remarkable 18 saves for Veszprém, but it was his teammate Dragan Pechmalbec, a former Nantais player, who scored four crucial goals.

Nantes, missing key players Aymeric Minne and Valero Rivera due to injury, struggled to keep up with Veszprém's relentless attack. At half-time, Veszprém held a commanding seven-goal lead, with the score standing at 17-10 in their favour. Noam Leopold then scored two quick goals to further extend their advantage.

The second half saw a more competitive Nantes, but they were unable to close the gap, eventually losing the game 30-25. This was Veszprém's second victory over Nantes in the Champions League, having beaten them in the second regular season game.

For Nantes, this loss continues their winless streak in the Champions League, with their last victory coming against Aalborg in the first game of the season (32-28). Their next chance to break this streak will be next Thursday, when they host the Norwegian team Kolstad.

In the group stage, Nantes find themselves in a tough group alongside Veszprém, Berlin, and two winless teams - Dinamo Bucharest and themselves. Both Nantes and Dinamo Bucharest are yet to win a game in the Champions League this season.

This victory propels Veszprém to the top of their group, having now won two games out of three. They will be looking to build on this momentum as they continue their Champions League campaign.
