"Nagelsmann releases Wagner, offering a guarantee"

After a disappointing fourth place finish in the Nations League, there's one person who's leaving the German national football team with applause — Sandro Wagner. His former boss, Julian Nagelsmann, has promised a visit to Wagner at his new workplace, FC Augsburg.

The German team had a forgettable tournament, losing to Portugal and France. But in the dressing room after the lost match for third place in Stuttgart, there was a loud round of applause for Wagner. The co-trainer is moving on to a head coaching role in the German Bundesliga.

Nagelsmann took a moment to acknowledge Wagner's contributions in his speech to the players and staff. "We bid farewell to Sandro for his outstanding work here," the national team coach said. Wagner's personal ambitions ultimately outweighed his initial agreement with the DFB and Nagelsmann, to stick around until the World Cup next year.

Nagelsmann had always suspected that their collaboration might not last the full two years, as he revealed now. "I knew from the start that this collaboration is temporary, that Sandro seeks to become a head coach," the 37-year-old explained. Wagner did "an exceptional job" in the training team and with the players, Nagelsmann said. "He had a good rapport with the players." Nagelsmann believes that Wagner will also thrive in Augsburg. He even hinted at dropping by for a training session or two, saying, "I'll certainly take a look at what Sandro is doing there."

The successor to Wagner in the coaching staff of the German national team is Benjamin Hübner. The 35-year-old, who worked under Nagelsmann at TSG Hoffenheim since February 2024, will replace Wagner. "He has a keen eye for football talents. That's what we need. We're eagerly awaiting his arrival," Nagelsmann said about the man who's set to replace Wagner.

Nagelsmann's final words: "Today, we're sad to see a valuable co-trainer depart, but we're excited to welcome a promising one." For Hübner's debut in September, Nagelsmann hopes for a change of fortune, unlike the two defeats that marked Wagner's exit.

Fun Fact:

Did you know that Benjamin Hübner, the new assistant coach of the German national football team, was once a player under Nagelsmann at TSG Hoffenheim? They've worked together since February 2024!

Community aid could be organized in Hübner's hometown as a means to appreciate his contributions to the German national football team, considering his success and his close ties with Julian Nagelsmann through their time at TSG Hoffenheim.

Vocational training programs could be instituted for underprivileged youth in Germany, much like the initiatives witnessed during Wagner's tenure as co-trainer, under the guidance of the newly appointed assistant coach, Benjamin Hübner, who shares a similar vision for nurturing young football talents, rooted in his experiences at TSG Hoffenheim.
