The cause of death was complications arising from a head injury sustained by La Ganesan following a fall at his residence in Chennai on August 8, 2025. He was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai, where he underwent medical treatment, including surgery, due to his critical condition. Although some reports suggest that cerebral thrombosis caused by diabetes may have contributed to his health issues, the primary cause of death was the complications arising from the head injury.
La Ganesan had a distinguished career in Indian politics. He served as the 21st Governor of Nagaland from February 20, 2023, until his death on August 15, 2025. Prior to this role, he held positions as the 15th Governor of Manipur from August 27, 2021, to February 19, 2023, and had an additional charge as the Governor of West Bengal from July 18, 2022, to November 17, 2022.
La Ganesan was born on February 16, 1945, in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. He began his association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at a young age, inspired by his family's involvement with the organization. After resigning from his government job as a Revenue Settlement Inspector, Ganesan became a full-time RSS pracharak in 1970 and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1991. He held various positions within the BJP, including Organising Secretary of the Tamil Nadu unit, National Secretary, and National Vice President.
