Mystery Figure in Hamas: Who is the Evasive Individual Israel Declares it Has Captured, Known as the "Phantom" of Hamas?

US President Donald Trump's tariff strategy received a temporary reprieve, as an appeals court preserved his import duties on China and other trading partners, pending the outcome of the appeals process.

The 10 percent tariffs, initially announced in April, have remained in effect, following the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit's administrative stay on a lower court ruling that deemed Trump's tactics unconstitutional.

The initial decision by the US Court of International Trade (CIT) in April had struck down all tariffs imposed by Trump, including those on Canada, China, Mexico, and the so-called "Liberation Day" tariffs. However, the CIT's ruling has been temporarily suspended while the appellate court reviews the motions and briefs.

The White House, previously expressing confidence that the decision would be overturned on appeal, has argued that the CIT judges "brazenly abused their judicial power" in challenging the president's tariff authority.

While the Trump administration is reportedly preparing alternative legal approaches, relying more heavily on other trade authorities beyond the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), Asian markets rallied, and US indexes closed higher, following the decision. European markets, however, closed slightly down.

Consequently, China has urged the United States to "heed the rational voices from the international community and domestic stakeholders" and entirely cancel the tariff measures imposed on Chinese goods, which have faced additional 145 percent tariffs before they were temporarily reduced for negotiation purposes.

By incorporating diverse legal means, the Trump administration seeks to sustain its tariff strategy while litigation continues. Analysts anticipate that the case may eventually reach the Supreme Court, but predict it may not mark the end of the tariff war.
