Unbelievable Find: Uncovered Rare Simson Moped Gem 🏍️

Mechanic Jens Friedrich (35) is ecstatic! He's stumbled upon an extraordinary find - a one-of-a-kind "Simson Star De Luxe" moped.

Hailing from Erfurt, this mechatronics engineer couldn't contain his excitement when this unique piece popped up in the classifieds. He promptly dashed to the seller near Suhl, knowing that only a handful of these bad boys had ever been constructed, and fewer still were actually in circulation.

"This moped's worth goes beyond quantification," Friedrich exclaims.

The moped's history is as fascinating as its rarity. The seller's father-in-law (66) had once worked at the Simson factory and managed to sneak out some parts to assemble this dream machine at home.

The '69 Star De Luxe: A Moped Mystery

This rare Star was born in 1969, just two years before a De Luxe model was exhibited at the Leipzig fair. Production never took off after that.

What sets the De Luxe apart from its series-produced Star counterparts are its larger, more angular tank with a bike-inspired look, a middle strut, and a 4-speed gearbox.

"It's got the Habicht's appearance but the heart and bones of a Star," explains Friedrich.

Friedrich splurged on this rare catch, committing to lovingly restore it and cherish it forever, honoring the ex-owner's request.

Friedrich's breathtaking discovery has sparked a whirlwind of regional news in Thuringia. With production ceasing after the Leipzig exhibition in '71, it remains unclear if any other De Luxe models still exist today.

While Simson did produce other models, there isn't sufficient information available to pinpoint the unique traits of the Simson Star De Luxe without further research.
