A family home in Erlensee has become a festive landmark, drawing visitors from as far as Fulda each evening. The Schneider family’s Christmas House shines with 32,000 LED lights, turning their property into a seasonal spectacle. Renate Schneider still describes the glowing display as her 'most beautiful Christmas gift' after all these years.

The tradition began when Renate Schneider shared her wish for a Christmas house with her son, Daniel. Inspired, he created the first light display, which has since grown into an annual event. The family invested around €16,000 initially, and the setup now costs about €160 in electricity per season.

The lights go live from the first Sunday of Advent until January 6. Warm whites and yellows dominate the display, with no flashing colours or late-night disturbances—everything switches off by 9 p.m. Installation used to take a week, but with a cherry picker, the family now completes it in a single day.

Despite its popularity, the Schneiders keep the display private. There are no donation boxes or extra attractions, and visitors have caused little trouble over the years.

The Christmas House remains a quiet, family-run tradition. Each year, thousands of lights bring joy to neighbours and travellers alike. The Schneiders continue to share their festive creation without fanfare or commercial intent.
