'My head's all over the place' - Callan Rydz breaks down in tears on stage over relative after edging Ally Pally thriller

Callan Rydz secured his place in the third round of the PDC World Darts Championship after a hard-fought five-set win over Daryl Gurney. The emotional victory saw Rydz hold back tears during his post-match interview, highlighting the intensity of the contest.

The match took a dramatic turn as Rydz edged out Gurney in the final set, winning 5-3. Before the game, Gurney had checked in on Rydz’s family, a gesture that visibly moved the player. After sealing the win with his last dart, the two shared a warm embrace on stage.

Rydz has now reached the third round for the third time in his career. His previous best performances came in 2020 and 2022, when he progressed to the quarter-finals. In the 2023 tournament, he went on to face Martin Schindler in the next round, defeating him 3-0. Looking ahead, Rydz will return after the Christmas break to play either Josh Rock or Joe Comito. A potential clash with Michael van Gerwen could also await if both players advance further.

The victory marks another strong showing for Rydz at the World Championship. His next match will determine whether he can push deeper into the tournament. The emotional win over Gurney adds to his growing reputation in the sport.
