Muster Dogs rights acquired by Ricochet in deal
Muster Dogs, the popular Australian series that showcases the diversity of the country's farming industry and the essential role of working dogs, is set to expand beyond Australia's borders. The British version of the series, produced by Ambience Entertainment in collaboration with the ABC, is currently in production following the success of three seasons in Australia.
Created and produced by Michael Boughen at Ambience Entertainment, Muster Dogs has captured the hearts of millions of viewers since its launch in 2023. The series, filmed over a full calendar year, follows six animal farmers from across Australia who are each given a puppy from the same litter and tasked with training them to be herding dogs in one year.
Season 1 of Muster Dogs launched with 2 million consolidated viewers per episode, a number that grew in Season 2, which premiered on ABC in 2024. With a consolidated audience of 2.1 million, Season 2 was the number 1 adult show on ABC. The series culminates in a final competition where one dog is named the nation's Champion Muster Dog.
Herding dog experts set challenges and assess the pups' progress throughout the year, rooting for their favorite puppy, farmer, and farm. The format was developed in partnership with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (the 'ABC').
Ricochet, a part of Warner Bros International TV Production, has acquired the rights to make a UK version of the Australian series. The British version of Muster Dogs is produced by Ambience Entertainment in collaboration with the ABC. The production team includes producers Sally Browning, Michael Boughen, and Monica O’Brien, with the show commissioned by ABC and supported by Screen Queensland and Screen NSW.
Monica O'Brien, Producer/Director at Ambience Entertainment, believes Muster Dogs celebrates the bond between handlers and their dogs. Damon Pattison, Creative Director at Ricochet, shares this excitement, expressing his belief that the UK version of Muster Dogs will be a success. Isabella Del Grande, Sales Executive at ABC Commercial, is equally thrilled about the UK adaptation.
As Season 3 of Muster Dogs currently airs, fans eagerly await the outcome of the competition and the start of Season 4, which is already in production. The series continues to speak to universal admiration for working dogs and the people who train them, highlighting the joys and challenges of farming life in Australia.
