Musk decries Trump's "Beautiful, Grand Legislation"

Elon Musk, the tech mogul, has stepped into the political ring, taking a swing at President Trump's tax and spending bill. In a blunt manner, Musk brands the bill as a "monstrosity." He expresses his worries about the bill escalating the already burgeoning budget deficit and national debt. He estimates that the deficit could reach an astonishing $2.5 trillion. Compare this to the deficit of around $1.8 trillion in 2024.

The contentious bill, labeled the "big beautiful law" by Trump, narrowly passed the House of Representatives - the first congressional chamber - in May. Yet, several Republican members in the Senate remain opposed to it. They voice concerns regarding the planned increase in the debt ceiling and demand deeper spending cuts.

White House Turns a Deaf Ear

The White House showed little reaction to Musk's criticism. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt simply stated, "The president already knows what Elon Musk thinks of this law." Trump resolutely stands by the bill.

An Unexpected Ally

Interestingly, Musk found an unlikely ally in Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders, who applauded Musk's criticism on X. Sanders pointed out the disparity between the $664 million in tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and the proposed $290 million reduction in food assistance for the needy.

Musk's Dilemma

Musk had previously voiced his disappointment about the committee Doge undermining his proposed spending cuts. In a recent interview with CBS TV, he admitted to being in a predicament due to his desire to avoid critiquing the government while not endorsing all of its decisions. Musk later escalated his criticism, stating, "Sorry, but I can't take it anymore."

A New Opportunity for Trump?

Despite his departing words regarding government officials' contracts being limited to 130 days per year, there have been signs in recent months of Musk's influence waning in Trump's inner circle.

  2. Amidst his criticism of President Trump's policies, Elon Musk found an unexpected ally in Senator Bernie Sanders, who agreed with Musk's views on the disparity between the tax cuts for the wealthy and the proposed cuts in food assistance for the needy, a matter of significant concern in the realm of policy-and-legislation and general-news.
